In a bowl, beat butter and sugar together till it has a creamy texture and is pale in color. Then, add golden syrup followed by egg yolk and continue to beat till it is well combined. Now, add all-purpose flour, sodium bicarbonate, ginger and allspice to the mixture and continue to mix till the dough has a smooth texture. You will have to knead the dough on a floured surface.
